Maybe I’m missing the point that this movie is trying to make but I just didn’t get it, I didn’t understand why anyone would find this movie appealing at all. The Beast itself looks so cheap and awful and there really is no need to see its penis as many times as we do. Between that and watching flowers being put in certain places, I really was close to turning the film off at this point. This scene of course is the dream sequence in which Lucy dreams of herself as Romilda (Lane) from the book and is chased by the beast before she starts having sex with it. The drawings sexually excite Lucy and eventually leads to a very long scene with some of the film’s most famous moments. It really makes it hard to relate to or like any of these characters.īefore you know it we’re seeing all sorts of weird stuff including some drawings of bestiality in a book about a fight with a beast in the local forest 200 years ago. We get some character development and get to know everyone and within those scenes the acting ranges from bad to average. It’s really difficult to comment on the acting in this movie because it would pretty much be the same as commenting on the acting in a Porn film. I’m not sure why we needed to see the horses in action, I’m pretty sure just mentioning that Mathurin owns a horse breeding business would’ve been good enough…Īfter some extensive horse porn, we’re introduced to Lucy (Hummel) and her aunt, Virginia (Kaza). The reason we’re seeing this is because one of the main characters, Mathurin (Benedetti) manages a family run horse breeding business. It’s not really the best way to draw people into your movie within the first few minutes. I honestly don’t know why the director thought this was a good idea and I honestly wish I could say it’s the only time we get to see this throughout the film. The movie starts with horses having graphic sex.

The film looks great mainly thanks to the beautiful scenery surrounding the sets but that doesn’t save this movie from being terrible. There is currently one video available for the film, of which one and only one is a trailer, as listed below.

Video archive for the film The Beast, which has a domestic theatrical release in the year of 1977. I thought this would be a camp entertaining piece of arthouse horror cinema but instead I got an over the top, dull and quite frankly uncomfortable movie. Cast: Sirpa Lane, Lisbeth Hummel, Marcel Dalio. So I watched this movie thinking I knew what I was in for but boy was I wrong. The Beast is an erotic horror fantasy drama following a late businessman’s daughter who is heading with her aunt to the crumbling estate of her soon-to-be husband, unaware of the strange rumours that cloud the family home. Starring Sirpa Lane, Lisbeth Hummel, Elisabeth Kaza and Pierre Benedetti
